New Diocesan Synod met on Saturday 20th November

Following the recent elections the new Diocesan synod met at Liverpool Quaker House on November 20^th. New members were introduced to the workings of synod which debated a variety of topics.

These included a presentation on the diocesan accounts and our budget from our outgoing Chair of Finance, David Greensmith. David was also warmly thanked for his tenure as Chair of the Board of Finance and the expert way he has steered our diocese through a period of great change and uncertainty.

Synod was also updated on the ongoing work and consultation around Fit For Mission and members were also invited to take part in our consultation exercise to discern who we would want as the next Bishop of Liverpool. Synod also received an update on General Synod which has also started with new representatives – you can see the Liverpool members here. And Bishop Paul gave his Presidential Address

We also held elections to the various houses and committees that are overseen by synod. So its congratulations to Rev Canon Samantha Nicholson who is the new Chair of the House of Clergy. And synod also recorded their warm thanks to Rev Canon Bob Lewis for his time in that role. Meanwhile congratulations to Debra Walker who was reappointed Chair of the House of Laity.

The Chairs of the House of Laity and Clergy take their role immediately upon election.

The Vacancy in See Committee similarly take their role immediately upon election. As advised previously, the Vacancy in See Committee elected today will not be involved in the appointment of Bishop Paul’s successor. As such, this new Vacancy in See Committee will not be called to meet unless there is a subsequent vacancy;

All other Committee Members will take their post from 1^st January 2022;

All elected posts end 31^st December 2024.
