Calling all crafters…

First published on: 27th January 2023

Can you help create memories and comfort for our patients as they near the end of their lives and help bring comfort to their families?

Rev'd Tracie Dunsby, hospital chaplain explains: "We are looking for people with wool craft skills to knit or crochet pairs of love hearts and pairs of bears. This allows us to give a set of hearts or bears to the patient. After they die, one heart or bear stays with them and the other is given to their family. The hearts can be any colour and joined together by a piece of wool which can be cut for separation.

We are also in need of hand-crafted blankets,  to fit on top of a single bed or half that size. This helps makes the patients’ environment feel a little more homely, and again, the family is given this to take home. The blankets can be of any colour and design.

Families feel a tangible connection to their loved one, the items bring comfort and create memories. The blankets help create a less clinical atmosphere in patients' rooms.

All donations will be gratefully received by the Chaplaincy departments at Aintree, Broadgreen & the Royal Hospitals.

The Trust will need regular donations of all these items. Donations can be delivered to either Broadgreen, the Royal or Aintree hospitals, marked FAO THE CHAPLAINS.

A note could be included to say where they are from so, we can say thank you."
