Alder Hey Spiritual Care Chaplains

First published on: 10th June 2021

The Spiritual Care team at Alder Hey is looking to grow its small team of Spiritual Care volunteers. This would be an ideal opportunity for those, lay or ordained, who may wish to test a possible calling toward future hospital chaplaincy ministry.

No previous experience of hospital ministry is required, but those who may feel called to such a voluntary ministry will be;

Able to commit regularly to one half-day session at the hospital per week

Sufficiently flexible to be available to follow up with visits to families who they are supporting, if they deem it desirable for pastoral reasons

Aware that this is a spiritually demanding ministry which, despite the fact that most children recover well, may involve support of families who may be losing their child, or whose child may be very seriously ill

Able and willing to offer spiritual support to those of any or of no faith, without judgement or prejudice.

Any appointment will be dependent upon an initial meeting, and DBS clearance.
