We are delighted to announce that St. Michael’s is now celebrating two grant awards. £227,200 has been allocated from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and £15,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation. This is in addition to existing grants from the National Churches Trust and Allchurches Trust plus a sizable anonymous private donation.
The funding received will be used to carry out urgent structural repairs to make the North aisle roof watertight, renew the support structure, upgrade the rainwater goods and make safe the pinnacles that are in danger of falling.
Ian Simpson, Heritage Officer, said, “St. Michael’s isn’t just one of Liverpool’s most important and iconic churches, it is one of this great city’s most important and iconic buildings. So I’m really delighted that the latest phase of much-needed repair works can finally get underway thanks to the generosity of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation and other donors and supporters. We want to leave this priceless heritage to future generations in a better condition than that in which we inherited it and these grants will help us do that”.
