Eucharist The Bread of Life

First published on: 29th June 2018

What place the Eucharist holds in the life and faith of the average churchgoer will be one of the interesting questions posed at a lively ecumenical discussion in September.

Bishop Paul will join the Archbishop of Liverpool, Malcolm McMahon and Sheryl Anderson - Chair of the Liverpool Methodist District for a stimulating discussion around the meanings of the Eucharist at Liverpool Parish Church in September 8th at 5;15pm.

The hour-long discussion will be a unique opportunity to hear leaders in three major denominations share their lived experience of the Eucharist as well as offering their theological reflections. Hosted by the respected author, journalist and broadcaster Clifford Longley, the discussion will include plenty of opportunities to question the three panellists.

You can expect a friendly forthright discussion on several matters including doctrinal matters from the leadership perspective; thoughts around how the average churchgoer sees the Eucharist.

Bishop Paul said "“The act of worship we call the Eucharist is rich in meaning and theology. And as we all know, its theological significance varies between churches and denominations. This could be, and indeed has been, a source of deep and painful division. But with mutual trust and honest understanding, we can enrich one another’s ideas and one another’s practice.

"This is why I look forward to discussing and sharing our understanding of the sacrament with Archbishop Malcolm and Methodist Chair Sheryl Anderson. Sharing together deepens our understanding, bringing us closer together as we see that we have more in common than we think and that discussion about our differences can bless us too.”

The discussion has been organised as a parallel event to the major Roman Catholic Adoremus: National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress
