Church of England School Children raise £3,600 for their “friends”
Generous Church of England schoolchildren from the Diocese of Liverpool have raised £3,600 for the Children’s Society. The money was raised as part of the annual school leavers services held for year six children. Over 3000 children attended the services on June 16th and 17th which were led by the Bishop of Liverpool and Warrington respectively.
The service marked an important occasion for the children. It helped them think about the friendships they have made and the new ones they will make in secondary education. Many of the young people were heavily involved in the service themselves from a display of banners to performances from school choirs.
The service took the theme of friends and those present remembered others whose childhood is more difficult through supporting The Children’s Society.
Schools were raising money for this national charity which aims to bring about positive changes to the lives of children and young people who face the greatest danger, discrimination or disadvantage in their daily lives.
Bishop James said “I am very pleased that schools from across the Diocese of Liverpool were able to raise so much money for the Children’s Society. Jesus taught us to treat everyone as if they are our friends. I think it is clear that the young people in our schools really understand that message”
Kate McNulty, Community Fundraising Manager for The Children Society added "It is great that the church schools across the Diocese of Liverpool have chosen to mark this important date in the life of their schools by raising money for us. This will enable us to work with many more children and young people making a difference in their lives. I would like to thank all involved for their enthusiasm and generosity.".
