Older people

We live in a society which is getting older but also a society where older people stay active for longer AND many people retire early.  This is a great opportunity for mission for our churches - celebrating the gifts of the many 50 and 60 plusers who are part (and sometimes full time) volunteers in parishes ... supporting those searching for faith who are older often at times of bereavement ... and supporting the hidden congregations of elderly people who live in sheltered accomodation, nursing homes and residential homes.

The Diocese has an Honorary Advisor on these issues, Mary Kessler who can be contacted at marykessler@idnet.com

In various areas of the diocese there are Age Concern centres which are good sources of information:

Full of Life: Older People's Day

Older People's Day takes place on October 1st 2009.

The aim is to run events that celebrate the role that older people play in our society, promote a positive view of later life and encourage different generations to interact. The theme this year is 'bringing generations together'.

For more information, and to find out about running your own event, please see http://fulloflife.direct.gov.uk/index.html

Let us know what you're doing and we can promote it here. Contact enquiries@liverpool.anglican.org
