The Queens 90th Birthday
Sermon preached at the service in Liverpool Cathedral to celebrate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. June 12, 2016.

Seventy-five years ago, in the dark days of October 1940, Winston Churchill’s private secretary John Colville wrote this in his diary:

“Today … Princess Elizabeth spoke for the first time on the wireless … if the monarchy survives, Queen Elizabeth II should be a most successful radio Queen.”

Pentecost 2016
Truth, and justice, and freedom from fear and hatred, and the miracle of forgiveness and love across the barriers of division; these are the gifts of God to us. He gives them today, if only we will seek them and ask His help to find them.

In the face of the worst that life and death can throw at us we can be unafraid, because of the promise of Jesus that we remember this day, Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Spirit, the feast of community, the feast of not walking alone.

Our link diocese in Virginia have announced that Bishop Paul Bayes and Bishop Shannon Johnston have commissioned Bishop Susan Goff to be an assisting bishop in our diocese. Bishop Susan will be with us in the summer for the clergy conference as well as assisting at the priest ordinations.
