Remembrance Sunday 2019

First published on: 8th November 2019

Bishop Paul has the following message for Remembrance Sunday 2019:

"Remembering makes us human. And in these days of fake news and fragmented society, like never before we need to remember the past so as to learn from it. We need to remember the horrors of war, the sacrifices made by so very many, the valour, the heroism. All this will always be worth marking, worth remembering.

I lost an uncle in the Second World War, and my Grandfather was gassed in the First War; he was never the same again. As we face turbulent times today, with the rise of hate speech and the presence of conflict throughout the world, we need to take time to remember the reality of war - the devastating consequences of war. As a Christian, I will use this time to reflect on following the Prince of Peace who called for love and reconciliation throughout the world. Please join me as you, too, remember."

Remembrance Prayer

Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you’. Help us to be peacemakers in our world today. Amen
