Liverpool Diocese leads the way in Mothers' Union Initiatives

Did you know that Liverpool Diocese is leading the way in outreach for families and young people?  Could you be a part of this?  Our President Caroline was invited to speak at the recent annual general meeting held in Portsmouth about our work.

Did you know that our Bags of Love are now the talk of other Diocese’s and they aspire to bring love to the parents of children starting school in Reception?  Our prototype is shortly to be shared on the MU website for the rest of the country and beyond to follow our lead!  This project started by watching how distressed some parents got leaving their child at school for the first time. President Caroline felt that our members could do something about this, and shine a light on this dark situation. We started to produce this little ‘bag of love’ and inside them is a packet of tissues, a tea bag or packet of coffee and a biscuit preferably chocolate, we all need some chocolate from time to time.  Also in the bag are two prayers and a small note explaining what the bag is. We are like the invisible friend that cares for the parents on this very traumatic day.

Did you know that these bags have been developed for different milestones in young people’s lives?  Canon Cynthia, our MU Chaplain is also involved in creating bags for the freshers and their parents at Hope University.  WOW!

Did you know we are the only Diocese to have a Mini MU? This is a superb initiative based in West Derby.  Make sure you watch the short video clip on the Diocese website where trustee Diane De Costa explains who they are and what they do. It’s because of small but effective projects like the ones outlined above that a group of children said that they wanted to be members of the Mothers' Union. “We want to do what you do.” they said to their Branch Leader. They have completed several projects including shoeboxes for the homeless and they are now doing a project around single-use plastics.  In addition, they will be involved in World Children’s Day so watch this space.   President Caroline is immensely proud of our Mini MU and says “I am sure there is more to come.  This new group wasn’t plucked out of thin air it came from small projects that showed the love of Mothers' Union.“

These are just a few examples of the fantastic work taking place within our Diocese.  However, in order to move our work forward, we are looking for a part-time Secretary to support the President, Trustees and members to provide Christian care for families.  Could you be this person?  If so, please do look at the person specification and job description.
