Lay Ministers Study Evening Series will focus on the Rule of Life

First published on: 27th March 2019

Our Diocesan vision is to ask God to create a Bigger Church that makes a Bigger Difference in the World, with more people coming to know Jesus and with more justice in the World.

In his recent book, Bishop Paul speaks of a table that may stretch out into every street and into every home. The host of the table is Jesus and He invites all to the table.

Bishop Paul also writes about the church as being on “the edge” and “underneath” in terms of its position in society (because that’s where most people are).

From the edge we give our gift, the knowledge of Jesus. Oh, that all people might know Him, and the power of His resurrection. Man and woman, rich and poor, gay and straight, black and white, conservative and progressive, believer and unbeliever, Jesus longs for our company. And His welcome is absolute.” (Bishop Paul Bayes 2019)

As Christian leaders within Liverpool Diocese we share in this vision and this calling, to offer up to God our own gifts in his service. And our prayer is that our offering will be fruitful as we seek to share the message of the Gospel within our communities. But we do well to remember that we too are welcomed to the table, we too are invited to eat.

And if you sit at his table he will feed you and he will ask you to feed others; he will serve you and ask you to serve others; he will love you and ask you to love others.” (Bishop Paul Bayes, 2019)

I believe that the above quotation is a beautiful summary of one of our other key diocesan initiatives: The Rule of Life.

Our Lay Ministers study evenings this year will be hosted by our Bishops; Bishop Paul and Bishop Beverley and Rev. Canon Steve McGanity. The key themes will focus on the Rule of Life and how we can serve and reach out to our communities with the message of Jesus love.

You are warmly invited to attend!

Tim Griffiths, Warden of Lay Ministers
