Join us to back the call for the end of gender-based violence

This year Liverpool Cathedral and the Diocese of Liverpool are joining forces to support the Mothers’ Union 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign.

Rev Canon Dr Ellen Loudon, Director of Social Justice & Canon Chancellor explains more,
“Liverpool Cathedral is very pleased to be partnering with MU to engage in social action in parishes and deaneries. This will be an opportunity for us to celebrate the MU 16 days of activism that has made a bigger difference locally. When we come together in worship and give thanks we see this action transformed by prayer. And our prayer is that this will be an opportunity for us to inspire others to engage in the issues that concern them and take action to see more justice in the world.”

The international campaign takes place each year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) until 10 December (International Human Rights Day). Gender-based violence occurs in every culture and context around the world. It can be carried out by a wide range of people including partners, family members, those in community, strangers or friends, those in positions of authority, armed groups, and the state.

To learn more about the campaign and help call for an end to gender-based violence in all forms and in all societies come along to Eucharist in the Lady Chapel of the Cathedral at 12:05 pm on 29 November. The service is followed by lunch, after which speakers Rev Bonnie Evans-Hills and Canon Rod Garner will talk about encouraging vigilance around and recognising the signs of gender-based violence.

During the day you’ll have the opportunity to explore the 13 Deanery prayer stations situated around the Cathedral. On 30 November there will be a photographic and floor book display of the prayer stations in the Derby Transept which will remain until the 16 Days of activism finishes on 10 December.

The 16 Days of activism is an extension of day-to-day grassroots work of Mothers’ Union which works alongside communities to help end gender-based violence and to support those affected by it every day of the year.
