Incumbent / Priest in Charge

Making It Easier > Making it easier for... > Our Clergy > Incumbant or Priest in Charge

An Incumbent is a priest who is in charge of church life in a particular parish. Depending on the parish they may be Vicar or Rector. A Priest-In-Charge fulfils a similar important role on a temporary basis if, for pastoral reasons, the bishop does not wish to grant the freehold of the parish, and thus make the priest an Incumbent.
