Hearing their LifeCall to Ordination

Over 40 people from across our diocese at different stages of their calling gathered at the Cathedral for a LifeCall event aimed at helping them further discern whether they are called to Ordination

A large part of this event involves demystifying some key parts of how the Church of England selects and trains our ordinands. So those attending benfitted from:-
  • hearing the different training experiences of three ordinands
  • exploring in small groups how to test God's call
  • finding out about different training options including our regional centres - All Saints Centre for Mission and Ministry and St Mellitus North West
  • hearing what it is actually like to go to a Bishop's Advisory Panel (for selection for Ordination training) from someone who's recently been.
All of this was put in the context of the support our diocese offers candidates, ordinands and those who are starting in their first curacy.

Director of Ordinands, Revd David Parry said "those who came were from a variety of places on the journey, from those already with a place on an advisory panel to those who are making their first tentative steps on the process. I was pleased with the level of positive and constructive engagement from all. I look forward to the next event in May 2014"

Like the rest of the Church of England our diocese is faced with an urgent challenge to develop leaders prepared to take on the mission challenges of the future. The discernment process is a long one - taking eight years on average before we have a confident, prepared parish incumbent. We must take this seriously. LifeCall supports people in their vocation to ministry as one way to create confident, missional leaders.
