Register now for Cash Smart: Credit Savvy

Julia Webster, from Just Finance Network, is encouraging you to register your interest in a new half day training course coming in March.

Cash Smart: Credit Savvy is designed to enable anyone with an interest in helping within their communities to get some quick easy to use financial skills that they can pass on to the people using their services. It will be especially useful to those who come into contact with young families, people in crisis, foodbank users, and any churches which offer community outreach activities.

Julia said “Churches have always responded to the needs of their communities.  There are thousands of small, unheralded but vital outreach activities going in parishes across the country every day such as foodbanks, play schemes, credit union outreaches and holiday feeding projects and many more.  The needs of people attending these projects are becoming ever more complex and it has been clear for some time that finance or a lack of financial acumen is a big issue for many people.  This lack of knowledge impacts significantly upon quality of life for many families and in response to this the Church Urban Fund working with the Money Advice Service have produced a short, simple training course called ‘Cash Smart: Credit Savvy’.

The course is open to anyone, no previous knowledge or experience is necessary and it’s been designed to enable anyone with an interest in helping within their communities to get some quick easy to use skills that they can pass on to the people using their services.  It will be especially useful to those who come into contact with young families, people in crisis, foodbank users, and any churches which offer community outreach activities.  The training consists of one afternoon session, which covers basic budgeting, debt, understanding credit and loans and tips on savvy spending. I plan to deliver 2 separate afternoon sessions in Merseyside during the month of March.   If anyone would like any more information or are interested in attending please contact me.”

What is Cash Smart: Credit Savvy?

A simple and effective way of teaching anyone how to set up a budget and how to improve their money skills.

Money affects all parts of our lives and our choices, but there is little teaching about it.

Jesus spoke about money more than anything else, except about the Kingdom.

Cash Smart: Credit Savvy (CS:CS) is a way of equipping people from churches and other organisations to talk about money and pass on their knowledge to others.

It is not training people to give advice. Rather it is a fun, interactive and accessible course, which helps people to:
  • Build a budget
  • Understand benefit changes
  • Explore Savvy Spending
  • Understand Credit & Loans
  • Look at debt

It is not aimed at any particular group. Our experience is that everyone who attends the course benefits from it.

It can also be a first step to other longer and more advance courses.

The emphasis is on empowering people to manage their own money in their particular circumstances so that they are in control of their budget.

It has been successfully used by/with churches, food banks, charities, councils, schools.
