Dean of Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool needs a creative and entrepreneurial Dean - is that you?

You will lead and grow the life of the Cathedral and share with the Bishop in the oversight of the Diocese.

Liverpool Cathedral is “a safe place to do risky things in the service of Christ” – a place of creativity and innovation with prayer and worship at the heart, and a commitment to social justice and evangelism. In preparation for the centenary celebrations in 2024, Chapter have set two ambitious goals: doubling the size of the congregations by making new disciples for Christ, and raising £24 million for building repairs and new projects. The next Dean will bring wisdom, creativity, flair and theological insights to enable these goals to be achieved.

As the Cathedral aims for excellence and innovation in its liturgical life, the Dean will encourage diverse styles of worship so that as many people as possible can encounter Christ. The Dean will be a strong preacher and teacher with a passion for social justice, and able to engage with people and communities across the City and Region, helping to relate the church and the world, and grow significant partnerships across the city with other faith and civic organisations.

Bishop Paul writes: “Liverpool is a wonderful city – vibrant, upbeat, resilient, full of humour and courage. The person appointed as our new Dean will bring a commitment to the spiritual and numerical growth of the Church and will contribute an open, prayerful, clear Christian perspective to the public life of the city and the region. Might that person be you?”

The appointment panel are particularly keen to encourage applications from women, people from BAME communities and individuals with disabilities.
