Changes in fee arrangements for Anglican Chaplains

For the attention of all Stipendiary and Non Stipendiary Clergy, PCC Treasurers and Churchwardens of Parishes in Vacancy.

A review has been completed by the Archdeacons considering the position of Anglican Chaplains in regard to being able to receive part of the DBF’s fee.

As of Thursday 6th April 2017 all Anglican Chaplains, both clergy and Readers, may claim half of the DBF fee due, as a grant, for officiating at an Anglican funeral or burial service.  Chaplains, who are clergy, may also claim for any weddings that they may undertake.  Related travel expenses should continue to be claimed from the respective parish.

Please be aware that:

i. Chaplains should only undertake Occasional Office services with the permission of the deceased’s parochial clergy.

ii. Anglican clergy or Readers in receipt of a stipend, or in the paid employment of our diocese, are still not permitted to claim any part of the DBF fee for undertaking Occasional Offices.
