The first commissioning service of spiritual directors

Officiated by The Bishop of Warrington, The Rt Revd Richard Blackburn, the first commissioning service of spiritual directors was held in the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Cathedral on 14th June

Following the service Rev Dawn Harrison, Team Vicar and Schools Minister Up Holland Team explains about spiritual direction and its purpose.

A spiritual director is a companion, an enabler, encourager, a fellow pilgrim on the spiritual journey, but also someone trained to help you discern God’s movements in your life as they listen to you, but also for God’s prompting during your sessions together.

Rev Dawn Harrison, Team Vicar and Schools Minister Up Holland Team elaborated further:

In the past spiritual direction may be been confined to prayer, worship attendance, perhaps the keeping rule of life. Today we have come to see God is present in the whole of our life and so the discussion will much wider - where is God in my life, what is God saying through my work, my relationships, my hobbies, what does God desire of me, what do I desire, where does God want to take me, how does He want me to serve Him, how can I be more fully the person God made me to be?

If you’re interested in becoming a spiritual director, if you wish to deepen your relationship with God and think you’ll find spiritual direction helpful, please contact Rev Dawn Harrison.

You may also find the following useful in your spiritual journey - a spiritual direction retreat in October this year or a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2018. (Details can be found in the purple box.)
